Johnson & Johnson said its trials in the U.S. and seven other countries showed 66% effectiveness in its vaccine in preventing sympomatic disease /moderate to severe illness. It is 85% effective against severe illness. "We're a single shot ... And now we've produced data that say that our vaccine is highly effective, 85% effective against severe COVID, 100% effective against hospitalization or death," J&J Dr. Mammen said.
Broken down by region, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, in the trial, was 72% effective in the U.S., 66% in Latin America and 57% in South Africa (Note SA has a new variant)..
They can deliver 100 million doses to the U.S. by June, if the FDA gives the green light. Note others have said J&J can deliver many doses in late April.
J&J is still testing some 2-dose solutions in phase 3 studies, and are planning studies in children and pregnant women to determine safety for them.
The news comes after interim results study released Thursday from Novavax showed its COVID-19 candidate vaccine to be safe and roughly 89+ % effective against the virus . South Africa & UK phase 3 study.
J&J may be a great solution for younger healthy people, say 18 - 40 or 50 (Very safe, milder side effects, good at preventing the illness, prevents serious illness in all cases in the study, 1 shot) the 100M shot would cover them and greatly reduce spread.
Perhaps for under 16 also, contingent on results from the planned study.

Ursula von der Leyen has said it is “crystal clear” that AstraZeneca is bound by its contract to deliver coronavirus vaccine doses produced in the UK to the EU to make up for a shortfall in production in Belgium. The European the commission’s president dismissed the arguments of AZ chief executive Pascal Soriot, that the British government had a first claim on doses produced in Oxford and Staffordshire.
So UK people can do without I guess. How greedy of the EU.
