Did not realize that Greg Sankey is the Committee of Infractions chairman on the North Carolina case. Bubba Cunningham has been critical of what might be construed as a conflict of interest with Sankey's position as SEC Commissioner.
"I don't like it. It's competitor versus competitor. It's fraught with conflict," Cunningham said.
Sankey's committee just served UNC with a third letter of infractions in late December, this one expanding the scope and re-inserting the football and basketball programs into the notice.
Cunningham's flirtation with Tennessee is really curious given the relationship with Sankey and timing of the COI case. Perhaps he's tired of fighting the case or may be looking to get out now before the hammer drops. It's possible, or he may simply be jockeying for support during a difficult time.
Cunningham reportedly accepted the Florida AD position in August, only to change his mind prior to the announcement, perhaps due to the fact Foley is sticking around. Cunningham is from Naples, Florida and has family in the state. He then received a raise in October to stay at UNC.
Very interesting 'turn of events' for sure.
