Mark Emmert remains hopeful 'there will be football in the fall'

It should provide at least a small relief that NCAA president Mark Emmert still believes that "we are likely to have football" this fall. Emmert also dismissed criticism that the recent spate of positive cases indicates the NCAA allowed athletes back on campus too soon.

According to a press release, the university cut the programs as part of its cost-reducing efforts needed due to budgetary constraints related to COVID-19. Reducing the number of sponsored sports, down to 17 (nine women's programs and eight men's programs), is one of many measures the university will use as part of its ongoing cost-cutting analysis.
