Was having a conversation last night with some friends and got on the topic of the depth of this year's team and what an unbelievable job Butch has done in recruiting to turn our roster around so quickly. I know it seems obvious, but when I looked at it on paper, it's even more impressive than I thought.
I would say that our second string (literally taking every starter off he team) would be favored over the first team Butch inherited here by more than a touchdown. The REALLY crazy thing is that I think the 3rd string this year would probably be a pick'em at worst with the 2013 starters.
As I was looking up the Roster info for the spots I couldn't remember, I ran across an article from SB Nation (linked) that gave the roster a current grade and future grade for every position. That was a heck of an interesting read, especially when put in context of where we are sitting right now. Would love to see a similar article done with this year's roster. Hard not to feel great about the position we are in this year and moving forward.
All that to say, Butch Jones has done an unbelievable job of building a quality roster top to bottom, especially given the mess of a roster he had to work with his first two years.
