I had written a letter to Greg Sankey after the Ole Miss game. I basically complained about the over abundance of fake injuries and the poor officiating in the game.

I actually did not expect a response from him. However I received a handwritten card in an envelope from him today. This was his response:

“ Thank you for your note and interest in college football. The NCAA football rules committee has authority and duty to modify rules governing injury timeouts. The SEC office has previously submitted suggestions for updating these rules, and we will do so again for consideration during the off-season. Officiating college football is a challenging endeavor and football is a game filled with surprises. The evaluation of officials is a comprehensive process, which takes place throughout the season and during the off-season. Is our goal to be error free, yet any human endeavor is imperfect. Accountability is applied when needed, but we do not make these actions known through public announcement. Thank you for your input. I wish you well.- Greg”

I am interested in other’s take on this. I give him credit for at least reading my letter and addressing my concerns and taking the time to hand write a response rather than a form letter sent by a subordinate. However, to say the SEC doesn’t make public announcements regarding officials comes up short in my mind, considering the public excoriation of UT regarding the behavior of a handful of fans.
