You can read the Iowa St AD mention this slightly in his letter he wrote...when he mentions they believe the football facility environment is the safer option for the players...to put context around that statement it is actually very accurate.
you operate initially allowing players to choose and then establish who wants to play ( we all know that would be almost everyone ) and honor scholarships for those that don’t.
From there...if it’s all about player safety, there is no safer place for all involved than the football team facility...if these players are sent home the overwhelming majority will not be social distancing from the public ( common sense would tell you that, but we lack common sense these days ).
Under the umbrella of the Football Facility players have the following advantages:
1) they are limited to a small population that is tested more thoroughly and regularly
2) they have access to testing on a regular basis
3) they have medical personnel And resources on stand by
4) if someone breaks the bubble...you have two advantages ( A. you know they aren’t positive to infect others because they are tested regularly B. You can easily isolate and test them to control spread )
5) players are more likely to isolate in a bubble with teammates they can hang out with than if they are alone on their own anyway
On the broader scale...players operating in football confinement are significantly less likely to contribute to case increases Nationally because they are limited in who they can impact ( the players and staff ). If the 100s of Players/Staff/Admin are released on their own...the number of people they can impact and spread to increases exponentially ( 150 potential infected people easily becomes 1000s )
If a breakout does occur within the team, which has happened already...they are still isolated from the public and it limits the overall impact. They are in a controlled environment where it can contained.
considering all of that...you also allowed them to choose whether they want to go home and isolate or play....
