One quick side note:

D-Day is always a special day to me. I'm a big military history guy, particularly WWII. I had a grandfather that fought through Europe and today means a lot. He didn't land at Normady, instead coming onto the battlefield later in the summer.

But, just wanted to echo tributes I've seen on social media and on other outlets today.

The men that stormed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Sword and Juno beaches were of a different breed, but they also weren't. They were citizen soldiers. Taxi drivers, factory workers, farmers and on and on. That's what makes them so extraordinary.

In reading and listening to them talk about their experiences, it's interesting how often they talk about not understanding the magnitude of what they were endeavoring at that time. Sure, the leaders of the world and the generals knew, but they changed the course of existence for millions of people on numerous continents. I have the utmost respect for those men that gave all and those that lived through it, but most assuredly always left a part of themselves on the other side of the Atlantic or Pacific.

And with that, on with the chat.
