"One area that is likely to see a change at Tennessee is in the strength and conditioning program. Dave Lawson, Tennessee’s director of strength and conditioning, left the program last April in what UT cited as “philosophical differences.”
Associate director of strength and conditioning Mike Szerszen assumed many of Lawson’s responsibilities, but Tennessee never filled Lawson’s spot on staff.
“It’s an absolutely critical position and cannot be understaffed any way, shape or form,” Neuheisel said. “They get to be with the players more than anybody else on your staff. In terms of having the right personality, they are the driving influence and the father figure to get stuff done and cultivate the psyche for your football team and makeup of your football team.”
Nutt called the strength and conditioning director, “the most important hire a head coach can make.”
“All these new coaches taking over a job, the first thing they do is hand the keys of the program to the strength and conditioning coach. You are putting a lot of responsibility in his hands,” Nutt said. “He needs to keep the guys safe and healthy and also get them stronger and faster and believe in your philosophies.”

For those saying the injuries were a fluke, examine this information from respectable coaches. It absolutely was a negative to this team.
