Long weekend in Houston - Suggestions?

Heading to Houston the last weekend in August - Thursday through Sunday trip.

We haven't booked a hotel yet - any suggestions on what area to stay in?

Also, we've bought tickets to see the Astros. Does anyone have suggestions on what else to do?
