People need to understand what is happening. The money being given to FA's is a factor of two things: 1) The new ESPN deal and 2) The salary "floor".

Most people that are up in arms over these contracts don't understand that each team MUST spend at LEAST 90% of the cap each year on players. Since the cap has gone up so much due to tgt new TV deal, and teams have so many players already under contract they are forced to pay these large deals. Also, you have "max" deals which mean players are capped in their contract. For uber-elite players, this is a huge problem under the CBA. The top 10 players should all be making $40m+ a year, but they are capped for much less. The derivative of this is mid-tier players making money that is comparable to top tier players. This was all collectively bargained.

Also something to keep in mind...think about how FEW NBA players there are in comparison to NFL. The money will ALWAYS be greater for NBA players due to the small rosters.

All that being said, the next TV deal will not be as rich as this last one. Players will have to take paycuts eventually. Should be very interesting.
