Last night around 9:30 I was standing at the very edge of my patio, which is elevated about 9 inches off of the ground. I was wearing slacks at the time. Out of no where, something struck at my pants leg. I jumped back and was unable to see what struck me.
I went back in to the house. There were no bite marks or any markings on my pants. A flashlight was retrieved, and I went back outside and approached the side of the patio where whatever struck my pants leg had been. Nothing was there of course. Then, I noticed in the vacant lot between my house and my neighbors house both a skunk and my neighbors house cat at the other end of the lot and the part of the lot closest to my patio.
My theory is that the neighbor's cat had been crouched at the end of my patio, and I infringed on his hunt and he swatted at my leg. Possible some sort of snake, but I would think it would have left some markings on my pants. I certainly hope it was not the skunk as they are known to carry rabies. I may be the only person on this site that has had to go through a round of rabies shots after being bitten on the hand by a bat(another story for another day). If it had been the skunk, I think I would have noticed his tail, as the top of its tail extended at least a foot in the air.
Really strange and puzzling incident to say the least.
