It is no secret that Butch is planning some changes on the Coaching Staff and Football Administration. These things need to be completed in a timely manner for several reasons. Coaches that are being let go need to have an opportunity to find new jobs. New coaches need to be hired and on board before both Signing Day and Spring Practice kicks off. The National Coaches convention is held right after the major bowl games. Can or does Butch have the freedom to make all the firing/buyout/reorg/hiring decisions without an AD's review or approval?
One thing I have not heard was the strong possibility that several coaches that figure they are on a "Hot Seat" decide to leave on their own right after the Bowl Game when everyone is hiring. Also consider that guys may get an opportunity for a departure to a better job with a promotion and pay raise.
The prospect of holding off on the AD hire until February reminds me of a gardener that decides to insure "good weather" to plant in Mid-July instead of early June. The results are poor because IT IS TOO LATE! Hiring good staff needs to be done when they are available and Late February and March is TOO Late. To prepare for next year Butch and the team needs a great Spring Practice to create a foundation for success. Can you imagine a Spring Practice with three or four coaching vacancies?
Are we ready for next year to be kissed off to "insure" the absolutely best hire to late to do the job? That sounds both like a Mike Hamilton move to me and also that the new Chancellor has a different agenda and /or may be clueless.
