Orlando Jones High senior tight end James Brown got the scholarship offer he wanted Sunday night and it didn't take him long to discuss it with his family as he decide to commit to the University of Tennessee football program.
"I'm locking it in with them right now," said Brown, who was receiving a phone call from Tennessee coaches as he talked on the phone with the Sentinel.
Brown, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound converted quarterback, switched to tight end this season upon the suggestion of first-year Jones head coach Elijah Williams. In the past two games Williams said Brown had really emerged as a presence at the position, which was clear Friday night at Lake Highland when he caught two touchdown passes, one a 32-yarder on a catch-and-run that showed off his athleticism.
Friday night's 41-13 victory over Lake Highland secured a Class 4A playoff spot for 9-1 Jones.
In the previous game, Brown threw two touchdown passes and caught another in posting 135 yards of total offense in a 50-0 rout of Port Orange Atlantic.
