Last night after the football game, my son and I made our way to my truck. I was parked up on a grassy hill facing the fence.
There were a few teenagers tossing a football below my truck and a family was parked right beside me waiting for the traffic to clear.
I sat in my truck a minute to let the kids passing clear out then I put my truck in reverse, which on that hill is usually enough for me to begin rolling backwards. Nothing. Truck didn't move. I applied the accelerator. Truck didn't move. That was weird. I put it into park and back into reverse and tried again. Nothing. Wouldn't move. I told my son we might be in trouble.
Suddenly, this lady runs right behind my tailgate and scoops up this little girl. She had wandered unnoticed right behind my truck. I'm sure the lady saw my back lights and heard my engine and assumed she noticed the little girl just in time.
I sat horrified for a minute knowing what almost happened. Then I put it in reverse again and backed out.
That feeling of horror changed to gratitude and thanks pretty quick, though. That mom will never know that she intervened too late, but God was just in time.
