Have two dogs. Older one is about 8 and is a Lab/Shepherd mix, male. Younger, female one is probably 2 or so, and I think is what they call a golden doodle (although she is black, lol).
Male is built pretty strong and is mostly docile, but likes to fight if provoked by critters. Female is very fast, but not at all strong or tough.
Anyway, one of my sons was home and heard the commotion. Couple of coyotes had the female down and she was yelping. Big dog ran up and commenced to whoopin' ass <insert Jerry Clower 'Hawwww'>.
Got one of them down and was working him, but the other would come up and bite hind legs. Son yelled enough to sort of break it up a little and was finally able to grab the 17 HMR. Thinks he terminated one of the coyote's contract, but will have to check the treeline out later to see.
The lower gif is the good boy who pulled on up when duty called.
