OT: IT guys - Alienware issue

IT VQers,

I got an Alienware laptop that's about 3 years old, it turns on but the screen stays black, plugged it into an external monitor and still nothing. i took it to a local IT place and they said they couldn't figure it out but if they had to guess it's the motherboard. has anyone had similar issues? TIA
