I've decided to run the Knoxville marathon April 2nd and am looking for some beginner advice / training help. I've never been a long distance runner, so are there any tips/tricks/nuances you'd like to share?
For those experienced, do you believe 4 months is adequate time to train? While i'm not a distance runner I am athletic and in shape. I started training last week and covered maybe 30 miles. This week i'm aiming for 40 miles. My current run schedules is 2 medium distance runs a week at marathon pace, 1 short distance fartlek, and 1 long run at less than marathon pace. My goal is to run it in under a 10 min/mi pace, but with my 10k being at about that pace now i'm not sure if i'll be able to make strides (no pun) needed to improve that much. Like I said, i'm not a lifelong runner so i'm not accustomed to how quickly you can increase and improve on mileage and pace.
Any comments appreciated
