Surely you can't think that Hart tried to low ball Gruden. He probably offered him a blank check. Meaning we have money for the RIGHT guy. The problem is not money. It's finding someone worthy of the money. There are not more than a handful of sure fire hires in this business. If you could get Saban, Meyer, etc. to say yes, you give them the moon. If not why over pay for the next up and come? If Butch were replaced there's a good chance we'd hire someone with a resume not as good as his was when we hired him. Which coach with a worse track record than Butch, do you think we should pay $7M to? In almost every case, you hire a coach based on potential and hope he becomes worthy of big money.
