Now that Fulmer has hired the new football coach, here are some things that I would like to see happen in UT athletics:
1. Hire a top level volleyball coach. This is important for optics, but it is also important that UT support ALL its programs the same way as it does football.
2. Establish a NCAA level women's gymnastics program. Even some SEC schools have done this. There is no reason UT should lag behind.
3. Establish a NCAA level men's soccer program. Many other schools have done this. I know there is Title IX to deal with, but somehow other schools, including many in the ACC and PAC 12 have been able to do this. Like it or not soccer is the wave of the future. Yeah, I know, communist kickball, but this will become a major sport in the U.S. in just a few years. Pat Summitt was a visionary in terms of women's basketball. Does UT want to be the last on this? Time to move.
4. Build an elite indoor track facility. That is what it will take to attract elite track athletes.
Don't get me wrong. Football is my passion, but we need to look at the bigger picture. Every team that UT has that is competitive on a national level raises UT's brand and credibility with respect to ALL of UT's programs.
