We were just talkin' football.
They're both in their mid-twenties and one of them asked me who I thought was the most dominant player I'd ever seen at UT and I responded that Jamal Lewis was the most unique specimen I'd ever seen play at UT and was an absolute man among boys.
They were just little kids when he was there, and I told them that- though he won't be remembered in the same way that Herschel and Bo are since he really only played 2.5 years (not even that, really)- he was the kinda player that belongs to be in the conversation with those guys based solely on his speed, size, and ability to beast on tacklers.
They thought that was a stretch, but I don't.
You're talking about a guy who was responsible for 3,251 yards of offense in 27 games- an offense that threw the ball a good bit.
And a guy who missed 60 percent of his sophomore year after the injury in the Auburn game in '98 and who had to split carries with Travis Henry and Onterrio Smith in '99, and who was already lookin' to the NFL that year.
A guy who ran a legitimate 4.38 at around 230 lbs. and could keep pace with the lineman on the bench press.
I don't think my statement is too bold, so I showed them this short video.
They were genuinely surprised to watch his speed on film.
