What's Ahead
The Denver Broncos will reportedly announce the start of the franchise sale process: The sale of the Broncos is expected to set a new record price for a North American sports franchise, so the formal start of that process is a big deal. The team reportedly hired Allen & Co. to handle the sale, and it'll likely be a few months before a winner emerges in the auction. The Washington Football Team reveals its new brand identity Wednesday: After an 18-month rebranding process, the NFL's Washington D.C.-based franchise will finally adopt its long-term identity on Wednesday. Rumors have swirled in recent weeks, with internet detectives (and DraftKings Sportsbook) pointing to Admirals and Commanders as the most likely options. Admirals and Commanders were also among NFL fans' favorites in a recent Morning Consult poll, finishing just behind Defenders. The House Committee on Oversight and Reform holds a roundtable Thursday to discuss the Washington Football Team's "Toxic Workplace Culture": The excitement around the unveiling of the Washington Football Team's new identity could be shortlived, as it will be followed by a congressional roundtable featuring testimony from several former team employees about workplace misconduct and the NFL's "failure to take steps to prevent sexual harassment and verbal abuse" under owner Dan Snyder. Team President Jason Wright is also scheduled to speak with the Economic Club of Washington D.C. on Thursday. The Beijing Winter Olympics begin with the opening ceremony Friday: Less than six months after the conclusion of the Tokyo Summer Games, China welcomes the world for the 2022 Winter Games amid a tense geopolitical environment. The opening ceremony will air live in the United States at 6:30 a.m. ET and reportedly run for an hour and forty minutes. The production isn't expected to be quite as grand as Beijing's iconic opening in 2008, due to cold weather and the pandemic, but filmmaker Zhang Yimou has nonetheless promised an "innovative" lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Las Vegas hosts the NHL All-Star Game and NFL Pro Bowl this weekend: The top talent from both the NHL and NFL are headed to Sin City for their respective All-Star festivities this year. The NHL will hold its skills competition at the Golden Knights' T-Mobile Arena on Friday night before putting on its now-regular three-game, 3-on-3 All-Star tournament between teams representing each of the league's four divisions on Saturday. On Sunday, the NFL will welcome fans to the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium, where top players from the AFC and NFC will compete in the Pro Bowl. NASCAR holds its season-opening Clash on Sunday at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum: For the first time, NASCAR's pre-season exhibition event is leaving Daytona International Speedway in favor of the L.A. Coliseum, where the sanctioning body has constructed a temporary track at a cost of more than $1 million. Assuming everything goes according to plan, it's believed the Clash at the Coliseum could open the door for NASCAR to stage future races on temporary tracks in a range of locations, including overseas. |
