'Time, Why You Punish Me?'
Being forced to stay up way too late to catch the end of nationally televised sporting events is an unfortunate reality of being a fan in the Eastern time zone. It wasn't until I went off to college in the Central time zone that I realized how much better rested fans in other parts of the country are the day after a big game.

I bring this up, of course, because last night's thrilling NCAA men's basketball finale tipped off at 9:20 p.m. ET and ended close to midnight, meaning many young fans and early risers (this morning newsletter writer included) were fast asleep well before "One Shining Moment" aired on TBS. While programming executives presumably choose start times that accommodate the largest nationwide audience, it's worth considering that nearly half of the U.S. population is on Eastern time, compared to 17% that's on Pacific time.

Maybe it's time to move the tipoff up by 30 minutes to an hour or two.
