  • The Washington Commanders paid more than $100 million for a 200-acre site in Virginia for what could be the next step in building a new stadium, according to a source with knowledge of the purchase, which was completed last week. A source said the Commanders liked the site because of the potential to develop a mixed-use property with a 60,000-seat domed stadium and an amphitheater, in addition to retail shops, bars, restaurants and residential living spaces.   • Anaheim, Calif. Mayor Harry Sidhu resigned amid a federal corruption investigation alleging he aimed to lobby for campaign donations in exchange for his support advancing a proposed stadium deal for the MLB's Los Angeles Angels. An affidavit alleges that Sidhu, who has not been charged with a crime, relayed confidential information to an Angels staffer through an intermediary about talks of selling the ballpark. (Politico)
  • MLB suspended New York Yankees' Josh Donaldson for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount after he referenced Jackie Robinson multiple times while talking to Chicago White Sox player Tim Anderson, who is Black. Donaldson's actions and the subsequent penalty, which he has appealed, did not sit well with White Sox staff, including manager Tony La Russa, who called Donaldson's comments "racist."
