Stolen Trailer Advice

I loaned a trailer to a high school to use for their marching band last fall. The trailer was stolen in March of this year from their parking lot. Is there any legal reason that makes the school liable for the replacement? They are fighting me on it and I am looking for a legal angle to make them replace it.
