First, I love the recruiting class that we just signed, especially our O-line and LB signees. I think that our class is every bit as good as Florida's.
It seems pretty obvious that Georgia has more talent that both UT and UF and should win the SEC East the next two years. If we can bring in another great recruiting class in 2020 to compliment this year's class, then we will have closed the gap with Georgia and by 2021, be in a position to start playing toe-to-toe with them, assuming our signees stay healthy and hungry.
As far as Florida is concerned, I don't think that there is as huge of a gap between UT and UF as some are saying. Florida lost almost all of their O-line, which was a strength of theirs this year, as well as several elite D-linemen, such as CC Jefferson, Polite and LB David Reese. They are going to enter this season with an inexperienced O-line and from my recollection, I don't think that their previous coach signed many elite O-linemen the last few years.
For those of you that remember previous recruiting classes, did McElwain bring in a ton of elite recruits the last 2 years while he was at Florida? Granted, our game with the is in the Swamp this year and it will take a huge effort for us to beat them down there. They do have some excellent receivers and RB's, as well as a great secondary, but I don't think that their OL or DL will be nearly as solid this year. Mullen did a helluva job coaching up his team, but he did have some very solid lines to work with. That won't be the case this year, unless I am wrong about the guys in the wings at UF.
