On Atlanta local sports radio the crew was talking how defense wins championships and it led to a more refined stat in that "QB sacks" win those championships. They compared the last 5 SECCG teams (East & West div winners) and in every case those teams we at the top or top 3 in total team sacks for the year.
So I did a little research on the top team sack leaders for 2015 and only Michigan State (23rd) wasn't in the top 10 from last year's "final four". Another interesting stat is Penn State was tied for 1st with 3.54 sacks/game...... It'll be interesting to see what Shoop can do with the talent he'll have this year vs last.
FYI, the commentary of why this is such a huge influence on games... pressure on the QB effectively makes every other defensive position player "better" and obviously changes field position.
