Tennessee's practice today was open to the media.
Here is my full notebook from what I saw:
- Tobe Awaka is limited due to a concussion
- JP Estrella is limited due to a fractured finger
- DJ Jefferson hasn't practiced the last few days for a noninjury-related reason
- Zakai Zeigler isn't a full participant but competed in 4-on-4 full contact drills
- Everyone else was fully active
- Going to be another year of incredible defensive numbers
- 3-on-3 drills with a short shot clock were dominated by defense, rare there was an open look
- Freddie Dillione is a great player but still makes some freshmen mistakes, Barnes was getting upset with forced shots early in the shot clock
- Josiah-Jordan James and Santiago Vescovi are the clear leaders
- Jonas Aidoo also stepping up as a leader among the big men
- Vescovi looks much more comfortable running the pick-and-roll, had a rough day shooting
- Jahmai Mashack looks more like the player he was at the end of last season offensively
- Jordan Gainey is a lethal shooter, other aspects such as decision-making need to grow
- Offense is extremely screen-heavy
Mashack
1-2, 2 points, 1 steal, 3 turnovers
Dillione
7-11, 1-4 3pt, 13 points, 2 turnovers
Phillips
4-5, 8 points, 1 turnover
Aidoo
4-8, 8 points, 1 block, 1 foul
Gainey
2-7, 2-7 3pt, 6 points, 2 turnovers
Zeigler
0-2, 0-1 3pt, 1 turnover
James
1-4, 0-2 3pt, 2 points
Carr
3-6, 1-3 3pt, 7 points, 1 steal, 1 foul
Vescovi
1-6, 1-5 3pt, 3 points, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 3 fouls
Knecht
3-5, 3-4 3pt, 9 points, 1 steal, 1 turnover
