that I am super optimistic for team 120 and something that I think is highly overlooked with the job that this staff did in 2013, 2014 and 2015 recruiting. But when Butch & Co. came on board they targeted some exceptionally athletic kids but they seemed to put a premium on smart, hard working, high character kids as well. I realize that everyone would love to have a nucleus of those kind of kids but I think the reason that the Vol classes which haven't been rated as high as the last three Bama classes are considered to be on par with Bama talent-wise because the Josh Dobbs and Jalen Reeves-Maybin type kids are smart and have worked their tails off to be great football players and even better leaders.
As much flack as Tennessee has taken off the field, think for a minute how many of the kids on team 120 who you listen to in interviews and see what they do in the community and the class room and you just swell up with pride. I've been a Vol fan for many decades now and trust me that has not always been the case. There have been times where you want to hide your face and hope they take the camera off of this person and turn off the mic and just let them go play. And some of those players are Vol legends.
I think the difference maker for team 120 will be the character and will of guys like Derek Barnett, Dobbs, JRM, Cam Sutton, TKJr, Evan Berry, Jashon Robertson, Ethan Wolf, Coleman Thomas, Chance Hall, Darrin Kirkland, McKenzie, Gaulden, Hurd, Kamara, Corey Vereen, Jason Croom and I'm more than sure I missed some. That's a lot of leadership to go along with talent. In terms of hard working, smart, high character kids team 120 is one of if not the best I've seen in a very very long time at Tennessee. And if that counts for one extra win along the way that might mean winning the East or winning the SECCG or who knows even winning it all.
I commend the kids and I commend the staff for having to foresight to create the profile of the recruits they wanted/want as well.
