Friend of mine at one time worked at the Tennessee State prison in Nashville for Dick Sisler. Sisler coordinated sports activities for the prison. He called St Louis to see if they had older uniforms they no longer needed that they could give him for the prison baseball team. So they sent a box of uniforms to him.

When the box arrived, he called my friend in and told him to pick himself out a jersey to keep. He looked in the box and found a # 6 jersey. For those uninformed, # 6 was worn by Stan Musial.

In 1990, he decided he wanted to try and sell the jersey. This was at the height of baseball cards being hot for collection. He asked if I would go with him to St Louis and be his negotiator in trying to sell the jersey. There was a major card show the weekend we went up to St Louis, along with the Cardinals playing.

On Saturday morning, we went down to the card show in the Holiday Inn. I asked the guy running it if he could direct us to the people that might be interested in a baseball jersey. Guy behind me said, you're looking for me..

We left and went to our room for this guy to check out the jersey. After 5-7 minutes of intently checking it out, he agreed it was for real. Beckett listed it at $12,000 so that was what I told him we would take for the jersey. He offered us $8,000 and I countered with $10,000 which he accepted.

He called his buddy and said we were coming up to their room that he just bought a Stan Musial jersey. When we got there his buddy had 10 stacks of $100 bills laying on the bed. They also had boxes of other jerseys, baseball gloves, baseball bats and other items they were trying to sell. Big time collectors.

Enjoy...
