Freshman Favour Ashe from Nigeria ran a windy 9.79 to win the LSU Relays 100 today by 0.23 seconds. The wind was 3.0 meters per second, which one meter above the allowable. Only four collegians have ever run faster under any conditions. Although wind aided, the margin of victory over a good field was huge. Earlier this year Ashe set the school freshman record indoors in the 60 and finished 3rd in the nationals. He ran a legal 10.17 in high school and ranked 7th in the world among runners age 19 and under. UT has a tradition of world-class sprinters, but no Vol has ever run this fast this early.
