i have been type 1 diabetic longer than i know. Was extremely skinny my whole life (125lbs) At 27 years old it got much worse and i ended up in the hospital diagnosed type 1 diabetic. i am 39 turning 40 this year and am in great health. (204lbs) lungs, kidneys, liver, heart...everything in excellent condition, thanks be to GOD. b/p and cholesterol good. A1C 6.1. exercise 5x's a week. eat somewhat healthy (other than a couple of times a week).
Anyways the story and questions.
i ask here because my doctor i dont think really understands it, so here goes.
when whatever happens happens and my sugar drops i dont fall out or go unconscious. i actually continue to go. of course i dont act like me because its not me. i blackout. like an alcohol induced blackout. thats bad but its not the worst of it. it tends to trigger a fight or flight scenario. im either trying like hell to get away or im trying to fight.
i will explain one of each.
the first time it happened i was asleep in bed about 8am. when i woke up (came to) i had 3 police officers and two paramedics in my bedroom and the door was locked. (they locked it to keep me in). the paramedic told me i was the f%cking devil when my sugar dropped. (he was called 2 more times to my house over a year and immediately calls for backup) that was the fight scenario.
the flight scenario happened when i was at work. going back to work after 5pm break and im gone. that fast i blacked out. at 8:30 the law got me a mile down the road at another factory. apparently i had run in one end of a ups depot and came out the other end high stepping. everyone at work chased me to no avail.
does anyone else have these experiences? are they common? i have seen other people fall out due to low sugar but even my doctor says he has not heard of a person on a 3.5 hour low sugar blackout.
