Obviously, I would like the UTAD to build and sustain strongly competitive programs in all sports in which UT currently competes. But, in addition and not in any particular order of priority, I would like to see the following:
1. Resolve the "Lady Vols" controversy. Personally, I have always felt it was somewhat demeaning and condescending to call a team "Lady" as though the team is somehow less worthy than other teams called "Vols." Apparently not everyone thinks the same as I do. I personally do not care what the women's teams are called. If restoring "Lady" to all women's teams will resolve the controversy, then so be it, or anything else that will make most people happy. It's silly for this so-called issue to drag on and on and on.
2. Build an indoor track facility or renovate and remodel any current facility UT has to provide a top notch indoor track facility.
3. Add the following sports as sponsored by the AD: men's soccer, women's gymnastics, men's volleyball, men's crew(this may not be a scholarship program anywhere, I am not sure. But UT, because of its location provides a good opportunity).
I realize that adding some of the sports mentioned in #3 would require somehow finding a clever way to satisfy Title IX. I wish that Title IX could be amended to exclude football from the equation. Title IX has really helped women, but in a sense discriminates against men. At UT's level someone almost has to be a physical freak in terms of size, strength or speed or some combination thereof to even have a shot at playing football. This is not the case with some other sports that UT currently does not provide. Consequently, some young men are not getting the opportunities they should have.
Too much time on my hands, I know. I don't post often though.
