Biggest win in Tennessee football history?

I'm going with the 1986 Sugar Bowl.

Beating Miami at the height of their dominance in the 1980s and doing it in emphatic fashion. That was the Hurricanes national championship game and Tennessee just controlled it the whole way.

On a related note, I have a story coming out in the coming weeks that touches on why that win was a big deal for the Vols' decade of dominance in the 90s according to a former player.

What game are y'all going with?

STORY: Decision to play in 2021 Music City Bowl paved way for Vols' success

At the time, it would have made sense for Tennessee to self-impose a bowl ban amid an NCAA investigation in 2021.

Josh Heupel didn't think twice about it. He wanted the players that stayed following a mass exodus through the transfer portal to be rewarded with a bowl game and that decision led to the Vols' current success:

Recruiting note

2024 tight end Gavin Hoffman was looking at potentially coming for the cookout event at the end of the month. However, he committed to Iowa a couple of weeks after the Vols offered, and after talking to him, it sounds unlikely he will be in attendance now. Tennessee continues to be involved with Roger Saleapaga and JaCorey Whitted at the tight end position for the 2024 class, and the cookout event will feature several blue-chip targets
