Notes, observations from Day 2 of Tennessee football fall practice

Just two periods of open practice today...

- Bru McCoy looks good, no brace or anything
- Nathan Leacock has a brace on his right knee
- Mike Matthews was sitting out, no helmet
- DeSean Bishop was primarily RB2 behind Sampson
- Offensive line coaching staff is stacked: Elarbee, Pendleton and now Parker Ball
- Small sample size, but every Nico throw is on the money
- Turrentine is the leader of DBs
- Chas Nimrod still working primarily at the slot
- Dayne Davis is pulling young guys aside on the OL

Recruiting Streak Continues?

The Vols finished off the month of July by reeling in 5 commitments, one being a flip by a four-star TE from Oregon to Tennessee.

This weekend there are two more players set to come off of the board, and Tennessee is heavily involved with both.

* Juan Gaston Jr. - 2025 four-star Westlake (Ga.) OL is set to announce on Friday. It is worth noting that Gaston is high school teammates with 2025 four-star WR Travis Smith Jr. who committed to Tennessee in July.

* Faizon Brandon - 2026 four-star Grimsley (N.C.) QB plans to make his early decision this Saturday. I'm pretty confident that the Vols are the team to beat, and quite honestly, they've been the team to beat for some time.

*** The No. 1 OL in the 2025 cycle David Sanders Jr. Is also set to come off the board mid-month on August 17th. It's still a but early to tell how this one plays out. Many think Ohip State is the team to beat, but I'm really not sure if that is the case. If they are the team to beat, Tennessee and Nebraska are hot on their heels.

READ: Jordan Ross looking to continue strong run of Tennessee edge rushers

Jordan Ross was always the bigger kid, but his size stood out on the defensive line on the first day of Tennessee's fall camp Wednesday.

He's looking to become the next successful edge rusher on the Vols' defense.

"I'm trying to play a lot."
