Notes, observations from Lady Vols' Monday practice

The Lady Vols practiced on Monday afternoon following media day.

Here are my notes and observations.

Notes

- Split into guards and forwards
Guards: Cooper, E. Darby, Strickland, Wells, Powell, T. Darby, Wynn
Forwards: Puckett, Striplin, Key, Jackson, Hollingshead
- Big emphasis on rebounding, Kellie clearly worried about where it will come from
- Kellie didn't like the energy to begin practice
- Jewel Spear is working on recovering from tweaking her ankle
- Tamari Key participated today, still working her way back, though. Wouldn't expect her for the opener.
- Kellie wants the team to space the floor with shooters
- Worked on transition offense and defense
- Defense is solid, did well stopping fast breaks
- Sara Puckett looked like a much better rebounder

I think the AP poll is crazy.

First it a group of press people voting. Some of the big eastern teams gets beat and they drop 1 spot or so. Tennessee drops 3 or so spots. And the refs were not very kind to us. I’m sure they call everthing against us by the book, but they did not call it the same way on Bama. I saw pictures this AM where a Bama defender had both hands holding our receiver back wit no call. The fair catch call was correct I assume but stupid. The receiver did not call for a fair catch but some guy on the side of the field did raise his hand..I think some playi calling cost us a chance to win. Running a small back up the middle on 4 th and 1 would not have been my choice. I would hav rum Milton or a speedy Bach toward the sidelines with a couple of blockers in front of him . Enough said we still have a good chance of a decent bowl and could even beat Ga. In Knoxville.

Great First Half

Hard to watch second half. How could the team that totally dominated first half come out that flat in the second half. One we were out coached: they adjusted, we didn't. Our receivers could not get separation and Alabama stopped the run. I can't blame Milton for taken to long because his primary receiver was not open and neither was the secondary receiver. I thought he improved on his throwing and definitely improved on his scrambling. For what ever reason this team does not play four quarters on the road.
