Ready to get roasted for having a minority viewpoint here. But I don't get the "it's gotta be a TN guy" mentality at all. I keep thinking about the Cubs. To break a 100+ year curse, did they go out and find a true Cubbie like Ryne Sandberg who "gets the Cubs" and would try his darndest to right the ship? No, they brought in Theo Epstein (an academic from the northeast) and Joe Maddon (who grew up a Cardinal fan) to go from 70 wins to 100+ and a World Series.

IMO, TN needs to find the Theo Epstein of college athletics; someone with solid academic credentials who has quality experience managing large budgets and various personalities. Frankly, of the names that have been floated, I like Dan Morrison. Was responsible for all business operations of the Panthers and their stadium. Has quality AD experience at TCU (overseeing some pretty good football teams). Has experience at the conference level. Has a masters from Chapel Hill and a doctorate. To me, that all outweighs "well, he's been around before and loves the university." I do wish he was about 8 years younger.

I guess my point is that reasonable minds can disagree about the most important criteria. But attacking the new chancellor because she doesn't agree with you that history at the university is the most important factor isn't fair, IMO.
