For the past several years I have been giving annual updates on USC during game week so even with a bye, those will begin now. First, a few things. I have been accused of a lot of things during my life and one has been my "obsession" with gamecock football. Anyone who knows me gets a laugh from that but having lived in Columbia for almost two decades and having retired (a failed retirement just as three more have failed too) from the USC faculty/administration, I have picked up some things through the years. You guys who live in "enemy" territory know what it is like to be around the local team 24/7. You cannot escape them.

I do not claim to have inside sources but do know some folks who have business dealings with the SC athletic department on a regular/daily basis. They do not call and say, I have a scoop for you Tennessee Boy. It is more like when Brent says I think Tennessee is in good shape for a recruit. But by putting the pieces together through their combined information , which is always reliable, the real story usually unfolds. You might recall the coaching fiasco when Muschamp was hired. Except for one local writer, the media here was doing little beyond what AD Tanner was putting forward. As we now know, most was pure BS. We knew the real story on VQ before most Cock fans, and it was accurate because of these "sources."
There are some interesting things going on in SC football, especially with their dismal QB situation. I'll go into that later this week but it is not all that it seems to be on the surface. This summer I said by the time that we played the chickens Mcllwain , the true frosh, would be the starter. That appeared to be the case until the T&M game where he started, but was ineffective and was benched in favor of Perry Orth, the former walk-on and Publix sack boy. Orth came in and pretty well lit up T&M and has started since then. In any case, it is a story that is playing out with Jake Bentley lurking in the wings.
If you have any interest, stay tuned. Next: The QB dilemma
