Had a second and thought I would Google the number of arrests per major sport per year. Another reason to get your kids into Hockey, I suppose.
2014:
NBA - 2148 (2.148% chance of a player getting arrested)
NFL - 1974 (1.974% chance of a player getting arrested)
MLB - 398 (.398% change of a player getting arrested)
NHL - 205 (.205% chance of a player getting arrested)
Edit: This is assuming a population of 100,000 for each sport. I've put the percentages beside the numbers for clarity.
For comparison... in 2012, 12M arrests were made in the US and the population was 314M. That's a 3.8% arrest rate. So you're kid reduces their chance of arrest by
- 55% if they play basketball.
- 50% if they play football.
- 89.5% if they play baseball.
- 95% if they play hockey.
Your choice as a parent. Do you want to reduce your child's chance of arrest to nearly zero? If the answer is yes, teach them play hockey.
