Our opening game could not produce a more perfect opponent for a couple of reasons. Although they don't have the talent to come into Neyland and pull the upset, they are not Austin Peay so it is a great opportunity for our young squad to get their feet wet and get ready for OU. The second and more important reason is, that they run a system that is very similar to what we will see from OU and will allow for invaluable preparation for defending that offense. This is critical for a guy like Kirkland who will be put to the test getting everyone aligned pre-snap. It will also be a great teaching tool for other young defenders like TK, Evan, Martin, and KP.
