coach in college basketball at coaching in-bounds defense. His teams are consistently excellent at defending in-bound plays. It is amazing how many times his teams get a turnover, 5-second call, trap, etc. when defending in-bound plays. While he was the coach of the Vols, we led the Nation in in-bound defense 3 or 4 times, and were always one of the best in the country. He is just amazing at scouting the other team and teaching great in-bound defense. It has carried over since he went to Auburn. I was reminded of that fact watching Auburn play against UConn today in the Battle for Atlantis game.
His teams are also generally excellent with in-bounds plays on offense as well. While he was coach of the Vols, we scored so many goals on in-bound plays, especially at critical parts of the game. We often totally schooled other teams. I’ll say that Rick Barnes has also been very good at drawing up and coaching in-bound offensive plays.
