It would take a disastrous season in 2017 for Coach Jones to be fired. That applies to any season. Either a losing record or NCAA level off the field issues are always going to put a coach at risk but I don't see either happening next year.
The SC and Vandy losses were inexcusable. However, had they won those two then lost to Alabama and Oklahoma then the current narrative would not have been significantly different. They'd have been 10-4 and coming off 2 ugly losses (most likely) and this board would be on fire and outraged.
Now, a mediocre season in 2017 puts Butch on the hot seat in 2018. But he's not on the hot seat going into next year.
FWIW, I'm on record as predicting that Coach Jones will leave on his own after next season.
