I went to a top 20 law school. Every single person in my class had, historically, been at the very top of their classes - best grades, best test scores, etc. Otherwise they wouldn't have gotten accepted. But guess what? Mathematically, 50% of those people were now going to be in the bottom 50% of their law school class, 25% of them were now going to be in the bottom 25%, etc. No way around it - just the facts of life. Some of those people crumbled - self esteem gone, etc. Others fought through it - buckled down and worked worked worked their way back up the ladder toward the top.
