Over on the Rivals home board Mike Farrell has been posting all kinds of articles on the 5 Star Challenge from the Georgia Dome last weekend. If you notice the articles from Saturday night he really built up KD Nixon for the day he had. He scored 4 touchdowns and made so remarkable catches in leading his team to the championship of the 7-on-7 challenge. They even had video of 3 of his touchdowns posted there.
Well today Mike Farrell has an article entitled "All-Farrell 5 Star Challenge Team- Offense". He listed several players who he was really impressed with and those whom he saw a ratings jump. Then he got to our own KD Nixon. Here is what he has to say about him.
Nixon, a late replacement for Joseph Lewis, turned out to be key for his team in its 7-on-7 victory as he grabbed four touchdown passes. The Tennessee commit is built like a small running back and likely too small to get a rankings bump based on this performance, but he was good.
I'm like wow. He had this what he was saying Saturday night "huge day" and yet he doesn't think he warrants a ratings bump because he is just too small. First of all, I know that when we think about the average pass receiver we don't think of somebody 5' 8" tall. However, is that going to keep them from being a great receiver? Our own Al Wilson was said to no be tall enough to play in the pro's but he started for several years with the Bronco's. Darren Sproles was told he was way too short for a NFL running back but guess what. Yep he's been very successful. Back to KD. Was he not performing Saturday against some of the top defensive backs in the country when he caught those TD passes? Those were elite players he was going against and had such a big day.
Is the Rivals conspiracy against the Vols at it again? I don't know there is such a creature but once again we see these two articles that just don't mesh. Was there any other players that performed well that Farrell made the statement they were not going to get a higher rating. Is he a 5 star? No, I don't think so. I think his performance maybe warrants a Rivals 250 rating maybe. I just don't understand making that statement unless your already planning something.
