Here are the cliff notes.

Doug Mathews Big Orange Sunday - Post-Florida Game 2015

* Doug Mathews started the program out stating that he likes where the program is right now. The program is much better than it was two years ago and better than it was a year ago.
* Did not like the result of the game.
* Gainesville is a difficult place to play for teams and fans.
* Tennessee is no longer feared or hated by the Gator fans and players. There is not reason for them to fear Tennessee.
* Tennessee should have won this game.
* Florida served this game up on a platter for Tennessee.
* Doug Mathews liked the coaching staff's game plan.
* Doug Mathews did say that the coaching staff's handling of the game and sideline coaching was among the worst coached games he has seen.
* Florida was waiting to get beat.
* This was a great opportunity to win and the team just collapsed.
* The sideline calls were just puzzling.
* Poor clock management by Tennessee.

More Thoughts

* Tennessee played an excellent game for 2 1/2 quarters.
* Tennessee was patient on offense.
* Two good- big coaching calls as big as any he has seen in a long time at Tennessee. You have to take chances in big games.
* Defensively for the first half, we rotated players in well. We were well rested on defense in the first half.
* Florida's defense was tired after the first half. Doug felt that we had wore their defense down and we had rested out players well.
* 2nd half, just did not execute and close down a game - offensively and defensively.

1st Half Thoughts

* Liked deferring to the 2nd half
* Got young players into the game early.
* Excellent 3rd down rush package.
* Great job working field position.
* Nice 4th down call with Kamara pass and Jennings pass.
* Some individuals played great - singled out Hurd played a great game, OL played as well as they are capable of playing, Dobbs - leading rusher, passer, and receiver. Wolf played a great game too.

Inability To Close Out The Game

* eerily reminiscent of the OU game.
* reminiscent of last years Florida game.
* Long 3rd quarter drive by the Vols was big.
* Juan Jennings tackle on kick off was a big play and the best hit /tackle by the Vols in the game.
* Gators were then 86 yards away from a score and we had a 13 point lead.
* Any DC worth his salt and the opposing team is 86 yards away and we can't close out the game. Have to learn how to close out games.
* Florida is just little bit above average.
* We will not play a lesser talented Florida any time soon.

Inside the Numbers

* Net punting - Trevor Daniel is kicking great. - 42.5 Net. Outstanding
* 254 yards rushing against an excellent Florida defensive front - top 3-4 defensive front in the league.
* We had an excellent game plan taking advantage of what we do well.
* Gator outscored us 21-10 in the 2nd half.
* Florida scored on 3 of their last 4 drives.
* Dobbs 58 yards receiving - 158 yards rushing 10-17 for 83 yards passing. Longest run and pass reception of the night.
* Florida was 5 for 5 on 4th down. They converted 4th and 2 yards, 4th and 7 yards, 4th and 8 yards , 4th and 6 yards, and 4th 14 yards.
* Last 56 seconds of the game and with 2 time outs, we ran only 3 plays.
* Very very poor sideline clock management.
* We used 2 time outs on Florida's 4th downs. One where Florida was going to punt the ball back to us and another where Florida was going to kick a field goal.
* Both times Florida used the time outs to rethink their options and decided to go for it. Both times they picked up the first down.
* When you stop a team on 3rd down, you have 2 options - block the kick/field goal or play in punt/kicks safe.
* We tried to make substitutions that created confusion on our part.
* Gave Florida an opportunity think things through.
* The Vols coaching staff did not give the players enough help to win this game- from the head coach down to the assistants.

Problems He Sees

* Does not understand not having our best players on the field in big games - continuously.
* WR rotation is puzzling. We do not play out best players enough.
* When we play the big games, North, Howard, Wolf, Jennings, and Williams need to be playing as much a possible.
* We are making big mistakes not playing playmakers.
* 4 Games into season and look at our talent. Not a single WR that has a 100 total yards receiving for the season. Unbelievable.
* Defensively, we are not getting pressure on the QB and we are playing man to man coverage every play. We are not mixing in enough zone coverage and makes it easy for the QBs to pick and choose where they will throw the ball. Abs picking on Moseley and Foreman
* Our secondary only got their hands on two balls all game long.
* Jumper starting at MLB and he failed throughout the drive
* WRs caught 2 passes for 7 yards for the entire game despite all of the talent we have at WR

Good Things

* We made some good OL adjustments.
* Play calls avoided bad situations for OL.
* Best our OL has played in along time
* Hurd and Kamara ran hard and good.
* Karma is a good punt returner.

Where Are We Going

* We have a rough road ahead of us.
* Our WRs have a huge height advantage that we are not using.
* Will we use this height advantage?
* Why did we not attack down the field with our WRs? Simply puzzling.
* We can't win in the SEC without throwing the ball to our WRs.
* One guy has to step up and make the play to win the game.
* Nobody on defense has stepped up to make plays to win the game. Somebody has to make the plays.
* We have a couple of guys on the 4th and 14 play, who did not bust their fanny on that play. They went though the motions on the play.
* We lost to a team that was not as good as us.
* We are making teams look good in the 4th quarter.
* We are going to get better.
* Need to find a way to win at least 2 of the next 4 games.
* Have to beat Arkansas.
* Coaching staff has to work to get better - make the changes in their decisions and who they put on the field.
* Major problem in the nickel - move someone over or we are in trouble. Doug said that we should look at Juaun Jennings at nickel. Jennings plays hard and needs to play more.
* If we don't play our best players more, we will not make the plays to win.
* We took a big hit losing this game.
