"False Choice"

I was recently listening to a podcast with an epidemiologist from Yale who was discussing this idea that we have to choose between saving the economy and saving lives through these extreme social distancing measures. He referred to this dichotomy as a "false choice". He said that in discussions with his colleagues in economics, they are all in agreement in that the way to salvage the economy and the way to preserve American lives are one and the same and that's to get through this pandemic as expeditiously as possible.

I'm not an economist and have no idea if he's right, but I did find some solace in this idea. I came across an article which supports his assertion and thought it might be worth sharing for anyone interested:
