The SEC front office is scared to death of UT making the CFB playoff because they do not believe that UT can take it all the way and win the National championship (thereby reinforcing to the country that the SEC is the best conference in the country). On the contrary, there's no doubt the SEC front office has confidence in Bama's ability.
Despite their lack of confidence in UT to win it all, they KNOW UT has the ability to beat Bama head-to-head not only once...but twice.
So, NOW if the dominos fall correctly, here is their chance to ensure AL gets into the CFB playoff (even with a loss in the regular season) by "allowing" TN to potentially be kept out of the SEC championship game by neglecting to force the FL/LSU game to be played. This all but guarantees an AL/FL SEC title game rematch.
However, if the dominos do not fall in a way that would force an AL/FL SEC championship game, it STILL gives the national media incentive to talk about all possible scenarios and outcomes that could be caused by the game not being played.
So, it's essentially a win-win for the SEC.
Flame away.
