Yes, we all know about injuries and the need for some guys need to get healthy and back on the field, but the real talk of this fall camp should focus on the potential immediate impact from a number of individuals (h/t Butch Jones) in the 2015 signing class.
As it currently stands, Jack Jones looks to be the lone 2015 signee starting on the offensive side of the ball, but that doesn't tell the whole story of this offensive class. Camp reports indicate RB Alvin Kamara and WR Jauan Jennings may be two of Tennessee's most dynamic offensive threats as both have received raved reviews at their respective positions. Additionally, linemen Chance Hall and Drew Richmond are pushing for playing time as is slot man Vincent Perry.
To say the Tennessee coaching staff if pleased with freshman QB Quintin Dormady is an understatement. They love Dormady's mental approach to the game along with physical gifts that have him comfortably settled in behind Josh Dobbs as a No. 2 quarterback. Dormady will get playing time as the situation allows throughout the season.
With all the above said, the real juice of the 2015 class looks to be on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the front seven. Freshman Darrin Kirkland Jr appears to the man winning the MLB position after recently garnering rave reviews from defensive coordinator John Jancek and head coach Butch Jones. It also may not be a stretch to say freshmen DEs Kyle Phillips and Darrell Taylor along with DTs Shy Tuttle and Khalil McKenzie help give Tennessee more quality D line depth than anytime in the program's history. Each of these guys have BIG TIME TALENT.
Not to be forgotten are two other freshmen LBs in Austin Smith and Quart'e Sapp. Both are athletic and can run. Expect plenty of special teams work and spot defensive duty for both of these guys.
That's my Two Minute Drill for the day!
