Buddy and I were having this conversation after the game....

“How can we truly close the gap on Bama, UGA, Clemson, Ohio State etc when they are getting elite players for 80% of their recruiting classes and have for years. You have to win like them to get those players but you have to have those players to win like them.”

Quarterback.

JG did fine. This isn’t a JG bash thread. The OL got manhandled which isn’t going to give him a chance. It’s not his skill set to just start running around making plays.

We have to hit on a big time QB who can go ball out against those elite teams.

I don’t know if the Coral kid for Ole Miss is big time but it didn’t matter that Bama’s pass rush could wreck Ole Miss’s OL. He just ran around and they couldn’t get to him and he made play after play. So those Uber talented DL didn’t know what to do. Stay in their lane and contain? Or get after him which is what they are built to

For the gap to close we have to hit on a QB who scares teams. So when those DLs with literally only Top50 players in the 2 deep cant just pin their ears back because they have some fear that QB will make them pay for it.

Kaidon Salter is talented and athletic.
Ty Simpson is talented and athletic.

I think Maurer has a little of that in his game. He has some feel and he is an athletic kid. He was just very raw when he got here. But at the end of the day that kid was a 3 Star probably for a reason.

Have heard reports of Bailey aren’t exactly glowing. Sucked to hear that and it came from a place where people know. We will see. Just a freshman in terrible circumstances right now. But it is pretty surprising that we haven’t heard a single word on him that was positive. No “arm talent” “He has feel” etc on him. Just crickets. Typically 5 Star type kids aren’t hiding regardless of the circumstance.

But nobody is lining up and running on that UGA defense. And odds are they aren’t going to protect that well. QB has to go out and make play after play. Playing field gets level.

Bottom line- we hit on a big time QB who DCs have to fear and that gap will close.
