John Brice working with you this season? He will be working the sideline. Andy not coming back due to family obligation and things he has going on in his life. John will be join us and bring knowledge and insight. Will interview Butch at the half.
Secondary? BG brings a good passing game? An unusual passing game. They will spread you out wide. They make it difficult. They will put trips out to the hash. Not just that they put a bunch of good receivers out there but they put guys out on an island and get one on one stuff. Have a screen game and get it out quickly. The secondary is not anything we thought it was 2.5 weeks ago. Lost Gaulden and Foreman is taking that spot. He is still adjusting to the Nickel. Lost McNeil. Jancek is still being coy on the spot. Asked him about TKJr. And he said it will be a game day decision. TK Jr. or Berry. Giving playing BGSU and the heat it will be all hands on deck in the secondary.
Brian Randolph? He is so steady. He gets everybody lined up. Best shape physically than he has ever been at. He is not flashy. He has so many snaps under his belt. Has seen so much. Comfort to have the QB back there you have had for 3 years.
Will be hot. How does that effect how they rotate the DL? They want stops. TN is weary of them getting into a rhythm with 9 to 10 play drives. BG has to hold up into the heat. They don’t sub that much. They play with a core group of guys. You get into no huddle and they don’t sub. Be interesting to see how the officials stand over the ball and how fast BG goes. Be interesting to see if McKenzie and Tuttle get out there and get hung out to dry on a number of extended plays how they respond.
Surprised it’s not a sell out? A little bit. Here is a couple of things. One is that BG is bringing 400 to 500 people. If it is a bigger opponent they are bringing a bigger crowd. If TN was playing MTSU or WKU they bring more fans. The afternoon time with the heat is something. The opponent is something. Another thing is that people are going to spend a lot of money the following week against Oklahoma. Hotel rooms, tickets are expensive.
Running game? Debord and Butch want to see if Vols can appose their will? No question. Gives the opportunity to see what you can do on OL. If the odds makers are right it will give you an opportunity to toy with the OL to see the right combos. You will see a lot of young faces. See Jack Jones. Chance Hall chances are speeding up. will see a lot of new faces and chances. Getting ready for OK and FL.
What can we see on Volquest come Sat.? will do matchup piece today. Will do column in morning. Will have a piece on CJ Fayton discussing his transition from QB to WR just like JuJuan Jennings. Predictions. Friday 5.
What is the topic flying under the radar for this Sat.? OL is being talked about but the one thing is the punter. Renfro, Tommy Townsend and Trevor Daniel the transfer. TN fans are hoping not to punt on Saturday but it will ramp up next week. Road games and kicking in different venues is big. Butch rebuilt Palardy two years ago. Look what he did with Matt Darr getting the Miami Dolphins position. Punter has been under the radar. Fans has talked injuries and OL not punter. TN has been terrific last few years in Special Teams. Used them to their advantage last few years in upset wins.
Debord is calling his 1st game in 7 years? Brice had something on Mike on Tuesday on what it would be like getting ready. Who will be out of breath more come Saturday Debord or one of the DL? He will have some butterflies. He is a very calm person but he will settle in.
With him calling plays? Does he know what Butch wants? ( Frank rambling like a hobo on the run) Debord was telling Butch what he wanted at Central Mich. and now the role is reversed. Butch on game day let his coaches coach. Not much influence. They play so fast he does not micro manage. He will have influence during TO’s. Butch will let Debord call his plays. Will have input during certain times. What you will see on Saturday is what Debord wants to do. Will it be heavy run game or vertical pass game?
WR situation? How many can we see? They will travel 7 and play 7 and that includes Preston Williams. Preston doesn’t know much of the offense. They will spoon feed him. Pig, Croom and Perry out it is all hands on deck for the WR guys. You will see JuJuan Jennings start and 3 wide. See a lot of Josh Malone. Josh Smith is back. Plan is to play all. This is a WR group that I have been critical of back in Spring but they have had a great Fall camp. You talk to players and coaches and Jennings name keeps coming up and it is spilling over. He has made Malone better in practice. He has helped them physically and their mentality.
That’s all folks!!! Go Vols!! See ya’ll in Nashville. Lot B. Come see me
