Had a small get together to watch game 7 of World Series and a good friend of mine brought up some interesting points. He stated that he has this kid working for him who is A HUGE TN FAN!! Said the kid was so pumped about the season and was convinced TN would likely win every game with a 50/50 chance against Bama.
My friends take I found to be interesting. He explained to his young employee that he has followed TN Athletics for over 40 years and he had found there had never been the level of commitment required to field championship teams consistently. His points were to remember back over the years and with very few exceptions TN fb has never been upper echelon. Further he said he explained to his younger employee that was the problem because most TN fans think that it is and upper tier program and have matching expectations.
I immediately disagreed reminding him of the 50's and the 90's as my defense. He said ok the 50's, really!!
After some reflection I fear my buddy is right, we are not a top tier program any longer.
